OpenSuSE 11.0 iso image

When the ‘splash screen’ appears on booting the DVD my keyboard is inactive. I cannot select ‘Installation’, any help would be appreciated.

If you are using a downloaded version, did you do a MD5SUMS check on the iso?

Does the mouse work?

Try holding the Shift key down when booting into install & see if that will allow use of the keyboard (supposed to work on some Dell laptops).

Try updating the BIOS.

If you get back, give us you hardware specs & maybe we can come up with something;)

USB Keyboard? If so, your bios may need to have “Legacy emulation” or “USB
Keyboard” option enabled.

Or install a PS/2 style keyboard briefly, since as soon as linux starts
running (for installer or normally), the USB keyboard drivers will kick in
and you’ll have your keyboard back. (The trick is getting to that point
huh?)

Is this a USB keyboard? Check your BIOS settings, and change your USB to a legacy mode setting (if available).

Another “trick” that works sometimes is to hold down either the TAB, CTRL, or ALT key when booting to the CD/DVD (I can’t remember which key).

And a final “trick” that works sometime, is if you are using a laptop, is to plug in an external monitor before switching on power to boot to the CD/DVD.

Thanks everyone for the help, BIOS KB settings now fixed.
In hindsight I wish not. 11.0 installation has corrupted my file systems on all volumes and the repair tool in the iso image is not compatible with the OS image. One is oss and the other is Non-oss :frowning: I knew this laptop would come in use
