openSUSE ver 11.0 KDE3.5
I installed the LAMP server in Yast → software management → patterns → LAMP server.
Then I went to initialise it in Yast → Network Services → Http server, like in 10.2 and 10.3 – but the “http server” icon is not there.
Anyone know about this?

I just discovered the answer: Set apache2 to boot at runlevels 3 and 5 and reboot – the icon for HTTP Server appears in Yast – woo hoo! I thought I was going to have to configure Apache for php myself, phew!
I think you are looking for the httpd yast module. You can download it from the standard repository.

I am running 10.3 and have the same problem. Setting the run levels does not help (I also enabled Apache2 - I assume that is OK?). I cannot find a httpd yast module from within Yast. Is there another way I must download it?

I found it :). It is called yast-http-server. I had to reboot (or maybe just re-log) but after that the “HTTP Server” icon showed up in Yast Network Services. Fyi it also installs yast-dns-server.

I too am having the same problem. I am converting to openSUSE (familiar with redhat, ubuntu, freebsd) - I have apache2 installed and it is running, but it does not show up in yast2 to configure. I have tried everything here, so far…no joy … any thoughts ? Thanks in advance…
Go to Yast –> system –> services/runlevels and switch on apache2. Then reboot. Then goto Yast –> network services –> http server
Yep, I had done that…and still nothing. in system services/runlevels apache2 is enabled ; and in expert mode it is set to runlevel 3 and 5. Apache IS working; I placed an index.html file in htdocs and all is good. I am just curious now why it never showed up in network services. I was hoping for it to be there to save time in the future (assuming that is where php and virtual is configured too) I can still handle the good ol’ fashion manual way.

Hiya,
You may want to check if the yast2-http-server package is installed. That
is the yast module for configuring apache. Should be in yast–>Software
Management then search on yast2-http-server and see if its checked off. If
it’s not then click to check it and then click the ‘accept’ button. Once
it’s installed close yast and relaunch it. There should be an HTTP Server
icon in the Network Services section.

Actually it seems you are both right. You need to install the yast module, and you need to set the runlevels. the module is not nearly as nice to me as the 10.x versions

I tried resetting run-levels number of times, and couldn’t find “yast2-http-server” at all in yast. Finally I remember my colleague E (who is very experienced & senior) saying that I’ve got wrong apache repository, i.e. in SLED-SP-1 I should be using SuSE-11.1 repositories, and that was it, I altered it from SuSE-11.3 back to 11.1 then re-installed the Apache, restarted the system and that’s it, got the HTTP Server’s icon back in my Yast > Network Services.

In the YaST Software Management module, did you make sure that you installed the yast module for the HTTP server?
