Default GTK apps not completely acquiring theme in KDE

I recently installed the Elegant Brit GTK theme into /usr/share/themes. I then used the GTK Styles and Fonts module in KDE system settings to switch to the Elegant Brit theme. However, GTK apps don't seem to completely pick up the theme. Some elements of the theme are there, but others are missing, resulting in graphical glitches. This happens for other themes as well. Any one know what's going on?

It happens in all GTK based apps. The main thing is that all menu's and drop-downs do not have borders around them and that the text for menus disappear upon click. I also think some of the colors are off.

I didn't read your question properly, sorry, kde 4 still hasn't got really great integration for gtk apps, at least according to me.

Why does it do that though? I mean it's a GTK app, gtk theme info is in /usr/share/themes. I don't get why it won't theme properly. Its not like I am trying to theme a KDE app to look like GTK apps.

The thing is according to me at least, that gtk apps theme properly in kde3 but they r not working so well in kde 4.

For example in your default kde 4 install u have kdebase3 as well and thats for kde 3 cause not all apps for kde 3 have been ported to kde 4 yet, I have noticed that if I change the color for gtk apps in the kde 3 control center that is "kcontrol" then gtk apps r affected but in kde 4 system settings it doesn't work that well.

Kde 4 is supposed to have much better kde 4 integration for gtk apps but its not complete yet, I remember when kde 4.0 came out gtk apps looked like a win 95 app in kde 4 and it has improved a lot, maybe when 4.1 or 4.2 is finally released then it will bet better.

I'm not an expert on GTK, so take this with a grain of salt, but I believe you either have to have the gnome theme engine running (won't happen by default in KDE, some people enable it in autostart) or have the theme info hardcoded into a ~/.gtk2 config file. You'll also need to make sure you disable the qt-gtk theme engine in KDE.

    Cheers,

How do I go about enabling the gnome theme engine? I do not have qt-qtk enabled.
