Disk is 100% full but it isnt

Hi, df shows my root partition (ext3) as 100% full and I cant seem to load my desktop among other applications. I have ran several utilities such as du and fsview and they all show only like 4gb out of 15gb used. Even when booting from a livecd. I think something is hosed in the index or something. Help??

I try to delete huge files, and du still shows 100% full. I can also create files, so I know that the disk isnt that full! Ive even installed software since this problem.

Dell D620 laptop with 60gb hd. opensuse 11.0 x86 kde4.

Thanks!

Never mind, Im a newb. It turns out that /var/log/networkmanager is taking up 12gb of space. now to go on over to the network forum.

Can you post the output of df -h? The actual / partition may not be
the biggest problem to have in this case depending on how many other
partitions you have.

When you “try to delete huge files” do they get deleted? What is
“huge”? When you ran ‘du’ did you have rights to the entire system by
being ‘root’?

Good luck.

So clear it out… and hopefully that other forum will help you some.

echo “” > /var/log/NetworkManager #run this command as ‘root’

Be sure you get permissions back the right way.

Good luck.
