I for one welcome and embrace our new corporate overlords.

The forums are what we make them, someone said that above, and I agree.

I wouldn't be here if it was "overlords"; partners is better-- 2cents

Sarcasm in reference to the posts calling it corporate - you're right, as far as I can tell it's partners, and depending on wherethe community goes from here, we can have a social community, technical without much charecter, or the best of social and technical.

Are we reading the same thread?
The reference to the "insignificant minority" is from another thread, in re: NNTP.

From post #17 in this thread
So as opposed to sitting back in one's armchair and commenting with only the occasional post
inference: lazy
instead volunteer and push in a polite, friendly,<snip>
inference: I'm not doing these things, hence, impolite, unfriendly.

The reason I'm continuing this thread in public is so I can publicly apologize to you if I've inferred too much from your post, and read meanings where none were meant. I'd also like to state that I'm not going off in a huff, or holding some kind of a grudge, or looking for a place to nurture my hurt feelings, for there aren't any. As I tried to convey before, it's a problem of size; too much volume, too many people for me to deal with. Big is efficient in many ways, but there is also a price to pay.

I think this forum is big enough, and flexible enough, to fit most everyone. Some effort will be needed to mold it in a suitable way, and I hope to keep striving in that direction. I definitely could use the support of users like yourself.
Neither Wal-mart nor Possum Blight General Store are good or bad intrinsically, but one or the other may be a better place for a given person. And try as you all may, you won't be able to make this forum a perfect fit for everyone. Just don't disparage the ones that don't fit in. They may be a minority, but they are *not* insignificant.
I used to be just bozo, but I guess it's late. Zzzzz...

I was trying hard (and I am still trying hard) to make a case that contribution from everyone, whether it be one post a day, or one a week, or what ever, contributing to a good attitude on the forum, is what we really need. Indeed contributing to a warm "Possum Blight General Store" attitude in the occasional post reads like a neat idea to me.

Maybe we also need a bit more on the lighter side, and convince G0NZ0 to tell us some more blender and microwave stories.

Perhaps a thread on our worse Linux blunders may be sufficiently aprés-pro, to lighten the mood.

Accepted! Definitely no inference was intended on my part.

I hope you stick around.

I kind of like some of the "Possum Blight General Store" characteristics, and I think it would be fun to try and integrate the warm friendly attitude that can come with that, on our forum.

Yeah it's called mailing lists where you have to follow all kinds of strange etiquette.
Man first, have a try at Info, have a look at Wiki, if all that fails Scroogle!!!!!
If I've helped click on the Rep button I don't know what it does but it sounds cool.

say what? and, why?

none of these are helpful:
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Po...neral+Store%22
http://www.answers.com/Possum Blight General Store
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special...+General+Store
http://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...+General+Store

if you are trying to coin a phrase/ideal at least you ought to define it
a few times/places..

okay, NOW i understand...Novell intends this to be just another social
networking site--but, this one happens to be held together because its
members use openSuSE....right?

and, the helpful mail-list with "strange etiquette" that was known as
NNTP is a distant memory..

ah, progress!
