I have a simple 20 in wide screen monitor. After installing opensuse 11 I cannot get the screen resolution to look good. Everything is screeched out and small. I have tried a few different resolutions but none seem to fix it. I know there is like 5 different places I can change screen resolution but can get any to work right.
Most of the time when I change it I lose the panel and have to reboot. After the reboot I’m back to the default resolution again. Any advice?
OK so I figured out how to get the desktop unstretched but now its back to the non wide screen ratio so I have giant black bars on the sides. any help on getting a normal resolution???
What is your video card or GPU, and what is the optimal resolution for your LCD? Also, run the following command from a console and post the results here;
cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Nvidia 8600 gt

Is display size and aspect ratio set correctly in sax2 for your LCD?

I had the same effect with an NVidia card and a 22" screen. It went away after I installed the NVidia drivers and set the monitor to its physical resolution in sax2.
Uwe
Yea looks like the nvidia drivers installed by default with the initial install. Is there a newer version than what I am using?
