Default Video & Sound problems w/ opensuse 11.0

Installed opensuse 11.0 x64 on a PC with a new motherboard (Asus P5E-V HDMI). After installing I have neither hardware accelarated graphics nor sound. The MB use the Intel G35 chipset (integrated graphics) video is reported as P965 (an older chipset)though. The system has 4 Gb RAM. Works well in all other respects.

I've read this motherboard is not well supported for sound in alsa:
The perfect HTPC motherboard? - Ubuntu Forums
but that bug report is old (and purportedly fixed in a ubuntu alsa).

So lets try to get your alsa working .... How about trying to work your way through the audio troubleshooting guide:
    SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE

If that doesn't work, then please run the two diagnostic scripts from that troubleshooting guide and post the URL that those scripts create.
    Scripts_to_run_to_obtain_detailed_information

    Also, post the output of:
    rpm -qa | grep alsa
    rpm -qa | grep pulse
    rpm -q libasound2
    uname -a
    cat /etc/modprobe.d/sound
