OpenSuse 11 & Asus 167g Wifi Usb stick

Hello,

Just an information post for others users who want to get wireless with Asus usb stick.

The solution that worked for me was to use ndiswrapper (asus linux driver not working, suse included driver was not working too).
But don’t do the mistake I did : don’t take the inf & sys files from a vista installation ! Download the XP version on the asus support site.
To Do :

  • blacklist the rtxxxusb (rt2500usb, rt2x00 ,…)
  • ndiswrapper “the_inf_file” (I don’t remember the parameters) + create alias
  • modprobe ndiswrapper

→ and It worked for me !
Full connection, high speed, …

But I think there’s a problem somewhere in the current release of many distros because I tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu and openSuse and there is the same wireless problem everywhere (my usb stick was working immediately in previous release). And forums are full of related problem…

Hope it can helps
