Thread: YouTube does not work anymore after update :-(

    Thumbs down YouTube does not work anymore after update :-(

    Hello.

    OpenSuse 11 worked beautifully with Firefox and YouTube on my machine for three days. Then I got an OpenSuse-updater message proposing updates, I updated what was proposed plus a couple of multimedia packages, and now there is no more YouTube (well, more precisely I can still go there, but no movie ever appears when asked), and no error message either.

    The problem is that I am totaly unable to troubleshoot the problem as I do not know what exactly is going wrong, nor which information is important in just that case

    I reinstalled later inconditionally with YaST :

    * everything containing "flash"
    * everything containing "firefox"

    Problem persists

    Did I do anything wrong ? (well, silly question : obviously I did)

    Is there any way to restore things as they were before (I mean is there a kind of apply/commmit/reject mechanism in YaST ?

    Thanks in advance to whoever knows

    Configuration :

    Asus A8N-VM CSM
    Athlon 3000+ (socket 940), 1GB RAM
    NVidia 7600 GS, PCI Express
    Samsung Syncmaster 940NW (1440x900)
    SoundBlaster card, PCI
    Seagate 500 GB 7200.11 with separate / and /home, more than half free.
    KDE 3.5 (okay, call me chicken !)

    Question Re: YouTube does not work anymore after update :-(

    I reinstalled everything containing the "mplayer" string by YaST, but the problem persists. To be more precise :

    When I click the name of a video on YouTube, a grey rectangle appear shortly where the video should appear, turn some miliseconds to black, then the black rectangle disappears, leaving me with just the page with a video title and nothing under it except a blank space.

    My screen is a 1680x1050 LCD, configured as ==> LCD 1680x1050@60Hz in YaST which yields in fact, according to the OSD of my monitor (Asus MW221U) 1280x1024@60Hz.

    My video card is an NVidia 7600 GS.

    Also, I find the following messages in /var/log/messages, though I do no know whether they are related or not to my problem :

    And the w32codecs?

    Aha ! This could be it, Uwe ! OK, I am reinstalling the w32codec-all and, while I am at it, installing libxine1-w32dll as well, just in case.

    (saving, trying, and I shall come back here as soon as it is done)

    Reinstalled W32codec-all and libxine1.
    Tried to relaunch a video on YouTube.
    Same results

    Now, should I restart Firefox 3 after the installation, juste in case ? Going to try that, too.

    I suppose you are using latest Firefox with the Adobe Flash plug-in (and no other opensource one like gnash or swfdec), true?
    $ rpm -qa "*Firefox*" "*flash*"
    MozillaFirefox-translations-3.0-0.1
    MozillaFirefox-3.0-0.1
    flash-player-9.0.124.0-10.1
    You can see the last 30 packages you have installed/updated with
    rpm -qa --last | head -n 30
    Since Adobe flash plugin is only available in 32bits there are some problem when using 64bits openSUSE, it's the case?

    And yes, PulseAudio could be the problem. Removing it (and libflashsupport) could help... perhaps remove just libflashsupport is enough.

    Houston, we have a problem :

    fda@e249:~> rpm -qa "Firefox" "flash"
    fda@e249:~>

    Let us try that as root :

    e249:~ # rpm -qa "Firefox" "flash"
    e249:~ #

    I can hardly believe that Firefox is not installed for two reasons. The first one is that I reinstalled Firefox less than one hour ago. The second one is that I am writing this from Firefox : Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; fr; rv:1.9.0) Gecko/2008061600 SUSE/3.0-1.2 Firefox/3.0

    Opps ! I had not noticed the stars. Let us try again :

    fda@e249:~> rpm -qa "*Firefox*" "*flash*"
    MozillaFirefox-translations-3.0-1.2
    flash-plugin-10.0.1.218-release
    libflashsupport-000-67.1
    MozillaFirefox-3.0-1.2
    flash-player-9.0.124.0-10.1
    fda@e249:~>

    Things look better :-)
