Default a noob question about updating

    hi

it may seem simple but can anybody answer it with a little detail

I always do a clean install but this time i wanna upgrade from 10.3 to 11, and i dont have a broadband connection at home (just dial-up).

how can i update my system without losing my previous account (it gets integrated ,right ?)

can i get ver.11 dvd and update my system from dvd directly?

in 10.3 the install creates a seperate partition for /home, so you could do a fresh install (will be easier because of a fair few changes to 11 i have heard) and just go into expert partitioning and choose NOT to format /home. if you keep the same usernames, then you will keep all of your old settings etc, providing you choose to install whichever desktop environment you have (e.g. if you have kde3.5.x then you should install kde3.5.9 in suse 11). if you can't download the dvd installation dvd, PM me and i would be more than happy to post you a copy free of charge.

I think update mighty function, (For 10.3) on installation installer suppose to recorgnize another root partition and then ask you whether to update or do clean installation.

Your choice, THOUGH I SAW PLENTY OF THREAD AND MAILING LIST THAT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE UPGRADE FROM 10.3 TO 11.0.

My ADVICE: Do a clean Installation as thestig suggest.

IMHO the one time one should try to avoid an "upgrade" is when going up a major version, especially if there has also been a major version change in the desktop.

In this case going from an openSUSE 10.x to 11.0, and KDE from 3.5.x to 4.x suggests to me a clean install is the safest course of action.
