    Unhappy Webcam issue

    I just can't get my webcam working. I have an MSI EX600X-073EU laptop, and it has a built-in webcam. Kopete recognizes the webcam. At the configuration, on the video panel it sais:

    Device: USB 2.0 Camera
    Input: Camera 1
    Standard: empty

    And where it should show the capture is a green blank. Where do i set it up? Thanks in advance.

    What chipset is that?
    Run "lsusb" and see if it lists a device which looks like your webcam. Then search for the "ID" string and google for it, plus let's say "webcam".
    Mine says, for example, 0ac8:c302, which is a UVC based cam. It is supported by one of the drivers offered in the "webcam" community repo.

    After lsusb I found this:

    Bus 007 Device 003: ID 0c45:62c0 Microdia Pavilion Webcam

    I installed the microdia driver from openSUSE repo but still nothing. Do I need any additional packages?

    * zolistir87,

    this one is supported by the UVC driver. Try this one. I recommend you use a TV app like xawtv, kdetv or something like that to test it.

    I've done some "stuff" with a friend(some module removeing, and re-adding, don't ask me I don't think I can reproduce it), and now it seems to be working until a certain level. I've discovered a few scenarios where it's working. For testing I've used: Skype, Kopete, luvcview.

    Scenario 1:

    If I try to view it from Kopete it shows me a green blank. After this it doesn't work at all.

    Scenario 2:

    If I test it in Skype or Luvcview first it works. I close them. I open up Kopete, I try to configure it, and same thing happens: green blank. After this if I run Luvcview again it gives me this output:

    SDL information:
    Video driver: x11
    A window manager is available
    Device information:
    Device path: /dev/video0
    Stream settings:
    Frame format: YUYV (MJPG is not supported by device)
    Unable to set format: Device or resource busy
    Init v4L2 failed !! exit fatal

    Scenario 3:

    If I open the Kopete configure screen, but don't click on the video configuration just yet. And run Skype video test it works, If I leave this open, and afterwards click on the kopete video configuration, the video capture appears, though very darkened, and it darkens in Skype too. I close both configuration windows, and open up Kopete again, it won't work, and it won't work in skype either.

    Hope this tells you something. I am using KDE 4(though I don't thing this is of any importance).

    * zolistir87,

    I'll see if I can find similarities with my Logitech cam.
