toshiba satellite m20

Ok, here goes…I am running opensuse 10.3. I can play mp3s, ogg, etc, but not wma…even tho I have followed the howto on multimedia. I have managed to play videos, but they have no sound. I have also noticed that my system is slowing down, similar to when I was infected with a trojan when running windows…
This is my third distro since I first started running Linux a few years ago. Still a lot I don’t know, which is fine, I truly enjoy learning…so, what do I read in order to find the problem. Last question, I’ve noticed that much documentation mentions .dir name, and I haven’t seen any in this installation. ex. /home/.wine…even using su mode file manager…
thanks,

mplayer and xine (packaged by packman) will play wma. So will amarok if you choose the xine engine. Even xmms, with the right plug in, will play wma.

This is what I’ve read, and I do have them installed. I still am not able to get wma files to play, error msg saays they’re encoded. I did d/l and instal xine and w32codecs-all.
Thanks,

Error messages says “they’re encoded” … hmmm. I’ve never seen an error message that stated exactly that. PLEASE can you quote the PRECISE error message. Precise!

Also, please provide the output of running the following in an xterm/terminal/konsole:
rpm -qa | grep alsa
rpm -qa | grep xine
rpm -q MPlayer
rpm -q w32codec-all

here is the output
