    Red face KDE3 chameleon question

    Hi all,

This may sound like a trivial question, but my girlfriend insists that I ask.

I recently installed OpenSuse 11 on her laptop (previously had ubuntu). A year and a half ago I put 10.2 on her laptop and she loved it, but it broke too often, so we switched to ubuntu.

The first thing she noticed after I installed 11.0 is the chameleon's eye doesn't follow the mouse like it did in 10.2. She thought it was cute and wants it to do it again.

So is there any settings or config file that I can edit to re-enable this?

    Thanks

Sorry for the dumb question, but which Chameleon exactly?

The chameleon on the K menu button in the bottom left corner. It changes colors whenever you mouse over it. You know, the mascot of OpenSuse

I do recall that some people refer to it as geeko (as in gecko), though this is technically incorrect, since gecko's can't change their skin color.

Anyways, in 10.2 whenever you moved your mouse over him his eye followed the mouse. Now it does not, and I would like to know if this can be re-enabled.

    Thanks

I used 10.2 for over a year and I never noticed that. We're not on hallucinogens there are we? . Seriously, the closest you're gonna get to what was the 10.2 KMemu icon is if you right click on the currect icon and select 'switch to KDE menu style'. I don't think the eye moves though...LOL.

You really sure? As Harry, I know it changed colors, that's all. Maybe it was a manually added kbfx theme.

Yeah, I too remember the Chameleon's eyes watching my mouse. The closest I can get now is Geyes or the eyes in FVWM.

Anybody know how to re-enable the chameleon's moving eyes? Or was it just too creepy?

Thumbs up Re: KDE3 chameleon question

After a little more digging, I found this archived thread:
10.3 Start Menu - openSUSE Forums

Basically run this from command line:
    Code:
kwriteconfig --file kickerrc --group General --key KickoffDrawGeekoEye true
It didn't work immediately for me, but after a few times of hitting the button and mousing over, it started to move.

The thread says that it was turned off by default because a lot of users found it annoying.

Nice find, srschifano. Scary to know that eye had been watching me the whole time.
