Thread: Dreaded Broadcom Wireless Card

    Default Dreaded Broadcom Wireless Card

I had my broadcom card working under 10.3, but since upgrading to 11.0 it does not work. The bcm43xx kernel module has dissappeared, and even after trying an extracted firmware, a downloaded firmware, and the firmware from skynet's repo, the b43 module fails to turn the card on. I still have that annoying orange light. Has anyone else been able to get this card running under 11.0?

Mine worked right out of the box after I installed the firmware. In my
case that was copying the files from my 10.3 partition, but that was
    just for convenience.

The "annoying orange light" is indicating that the wifi switch is off.
What does the dmesg output have to say about your wifi?

The switch is on, I can assure you. I went through all this when I first installed 10.3. Until the driver/module/firmware are all loaded properly, the light stays orange no matter what position the switch is in.

Edit: dmesg clued me in that I installed the wrong version of fwcutter. Installing version 11 and re-probing the b43 module brought the card right up. Thanks!!!!

If the correct firmware isn't available, nothing works.

For anyone reading this, dmesg is as much your friend for trouble as
    Google is for finding stuff!

You are very welcome. I'm glad I could help.
