Default openSUSE 11 GM hangsup in desktop (KDE 3.5.9)

Hi, i've installed openSUSE 11 without any problem but when i entered to desktop by first time it hangsup in about 5 or 10 seconds, i tried installing nvidia driver using console (without entering to X) but the same happens, i tried booting from failsafe but the same happens, i'm not sure why this happens but i have a clue ... here you can see a picture that i took with my cell phone camera:

i think that indexing process make my system hangsup, but i am not sure, can anybody tell me why this happens and how can i fix this ?? now i'm posting using a live cd because my installed system doesn't work (i don't have another SO installed but openSUSE 11.0)

    greetings !!!!!

PD: sory for my english, i speak spanish

ok buddys, i found the problem ...

Beagle !!, i entered to my desktop and quickly deactivate beagle in kerry and now everything runs perfect ... then i activate it again in kerry and system hangsup inmediately, so beagle is the problem ... i look into beagle logs and found this (copy and paste from current-Beagle file)

i don't know why this happens, as root user i have no problems.

If anyone have this problem now can workaround with this "tip".

    greetings !!!

If you configure Beagle, you will see that it only indexes user files unless you specify otherwise. It is nothing to do with KDE 3.5.9; it happens on 10.3 with KDE particularly if you have been closed down for a while.

It is possible that, with the new installation, it is taking a long time to index everything or that it is configured to index more than you need.

    hi, thanks for reply.

I figured out that the problem has nothing to do with KDE 'cause the same happens with KDE 4.0.4, but only with normal user, root has no problems.

I haven't changed any configuration to beagle, as I said, i installed the system and hangsup right after loading desktop.

After power down and restart my system the desktop loads and hangsup (mouse and board doesn't work), I let it alone about one hour or more to see if some process was indexing the user filespace but no, it was hang.

I looked into beagle configuration and it should index only user files, no the entire system so i don't understand why the system hangsup.

I think the error code could be a clue to figure out the reason of this especific problem.

I have beagle disabled by the moment so everything runs perfect.

    thanks !!!

    greetings !!!!

You can try enabling beagle some time when you are leaving the computer for an hour. Maybe by the time you are back it will be done and you can use it.

that assumes you want to use Beagle and it is nice for many people

I just removed Kerry and Beagle since I can happily use the old locate command at the terminal for my needs

    Hola metalklesk!

One thing that has me a bit concerned is that Beagle complains about not being able to speak to dbus.

Try running "chkconfig dbus" from a terminal; is it 'on' or 'off'?
Pretend that I did something really geeky like posting my computer specs here.

this appears to be a relevant post and removes the " Beagle ERROR EX: System.Exception: Unable to open the session message bus. ---> System.ArgumentNullException: Argument cannot be null." error

you may need to restart kde for it to take,

For me, after doing this "beagle-search" just hangs, though no error messages are given anymore

In recap kerry and the kio work fine for searching but not beagle-search

fyi - there are other alternative like recoll and google destop searc
openSUSE Leap 42.1 x64, Plasma 5 & KDE 4.14.x, pretty current proprietary Nvidia drivers (self-compiled)

i have a very similar problem
i just installed opensuse 11 (iv used ubuntu for years)
and i had this same problem on login.. when i log in with icewm or tvm theres no problem with my normal user account
btu if log in with my user - i get the same system freeze/hangup..
when i log in with root - i have no problem..

so im just going to try and remove beagle from my system completely and see waht happens..

    Hi, thanks for reply ...

I tried "chkconfig dbus" and it shows "dbus on" in console, then I restarted kde and when kerry (beagle) starts indexing my files the system hangsup inmediately ... The same log error appears ....

I will remove beagle and kerry to give a try to google desktop.

I liked kerry because it has Kde integration (search option in kde menu), i hope google desktops have the same integration.

    greetings !!!
