Default Gnome startup issues on Lenovo X61

I've been running 10.3 with Gnome on a Lenovo X61 laptop for several months without any major issues. Ever since yesterday Gnome starts but applications do not have window borders. Each application runs on top of the other and to get to an application behind the top one I have to close the app running on top. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Desktop effects comes to mind, if you have it, disable it.

Tried disabling desktop effects but that didn't do the trick. I found a post on the Ubuntu forums that pointed to metacity. Opening a command prompt and runnint metacity and then clearing out the files in ~/.metacity/sessions/ and then rebooting did the trick. Thanks
