Thread: Songbird - The Firefox of media players

Default Songbird - The Firefox of media players

I know everyone is usually an Amarok or Banshee fan. But I just wanted to point some people into the direction of Songbird. It looks like as it matures, it will blow both Banshee and Amarok out of the water.

    Songbird Media Player

    Take a look!

You did read what it does right? It's a limited player at best
with deep web integration. If web integration is what you've
been missing from your media player... then yes, I suppose
Songbird is what you need. However, I didn't see where
Songbird plans on replacing Amarok, Banshee, Kaffeine, etc.

I guess if there's any good news... the fact that people
are enamored by web interfaces is a good thing in that
it lowers the bar considerably when it comes to a good
interface design. Actually makes Amarok (flaws and all) look
    really good.

Songbird is an interesting app. I have read that there may be issues relating to the way it searches for and enables the download of music - depending on where you live. Amarok still rocks for me though.

I've had Songbird since 0.2 and it is evolving quickly. While it is a great app, I think it'll always be more of a complement to Amarok or Banshee not a replacement. In the same way one uses Fx for a PDF.

Looks cool. The interface look almost identical to iTunes though. The idea of (copying is a strong word) emulating iTunes that closely makes me wonder about the originality of it, but it looks like it's worth trying out as the program progress. If I could only get Banshee to play my iTunes songs, I would not even consider a player other than Banshee or Amarok, but it's always good to try new programs out.

    Good find!

I've been using songbird for a few days, but after reconsideration, there's nothing that it really gives that banshee or amarok don't. I'm back to Amarok.

My point was never that songbird was better, but I think it could evolve into something great.

Right now it's true that it's really just an iTunes clone for linux, without the iTunes music support.
