    FYI -
Not quite the same thing, but should be close enough.

It's simple to add an application shortcut to the Quick Launch application bar...

    1. Open up Dolphin or Konqueror with sufficient permissions to access the application executable

    2. Drag the application executable down to the preferred position in the Quick Launch bar. Note that if you drop it on top of another icon (like Dolphin or Konqueror) you'll instead launch apps. If you place it in the wrong order, it might not be modifiable (just remove and try again).

Also, earlier in this thread was stated that KDE4 was only an option. I'd say it was a very prominent option most people would select, and 4.1 was only offered with warnings <it> was unstable compared to 4.0.

I am sure learning to hate and loathe the KDE folks. I am now in KDE 4.7.2 and I'm trying to find out why the apps in ~/Desktop are not on my desk top. Something must have been improved.

Is it an option for you to switch the desktop to folder view? That is
almost identical to the classical look and feel.
If I misunderstood what you are after, can you try to explain it a bit more?
