Default Best or Most Offbeat Movies

Here's my top 5 for both categories:

    Best:

    1)Hoosiers (with Gene Hackman)
2)Good Morning Vietnam (with Robin Williams)
    3)Mask (with Cher)
    4)Captive Hearts (with Pat Morita)
5)The Last Waltz (with 'The Band')

    Most Offbeat:

    1)Local Hero
    2)HouseKeeping (with Christine Lahti)
    3)Unstrung Heroes (with Michael Richards)
    4)Harold and Maude
    5)Smoke

The 'offbeats' are worth seeing, as there is a touching charm and sentimentality in each of them. All make some subtle yet fundamental statement on the human condition. -joe

Dead Leaves Dead Leaves - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia What can I say this is really off beat.
Ninja Scrolls Anime OK so I like the martial art Stuff
Which leads to Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia but just bias like Tony Jaa's style.
Tokyo Godfathers quite memorable Anime but nothing like Dead Leaves for off beat.

OK I'm sure I could keep going ask me in 6 months time I'm sure these would be different.

    I agree

I really could keep going Cashback is another off beat one I found really quite good. Not my typical film but got me, found it really nicely filmed with a quirky story.

But I must leave this thread alone now seen to many offbeat films. But if you've not seen Oldboy it's certainly one I would watch again. Its so not predictable, you certainly have empathy for the main character all through the film.

I could spend a year pontificating about the five best off-beat movies, but I don't have the time, so I'm going to throw these out as my personal favorites for replay value. I reserve the right to change my choices as time progresses

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure - ok, it's an acquired taste.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail - Funniest. Movie. Ever.
Mullholand Drive - Had to watch it 27 times before I finally "got it", but David Lynch is cool
The Salton Sea - Not sure why, but this movie always haunts me
    Office Space - Just because.

I liked Bill and Teds EA. It was in line with many good Saturday Night Live Movies. Forgive me, Dumb and Dumber made me laugh big time. But I have always enjoyed offbeat humor.

I have a rather cyberpunkish style so for me the best movies are

    - Nemesis
    - Blade Runner
    - Terminator 2
    - Hardware
    - The Matrix

I can't think of any offbeat movies right now, but I'm sure I have a few on my list, just can't think of them.
