Default The Future of the Internet?

I caught a link to this book in my RSS reader this morning. Jonathan Zittrain has written a book called "The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It", released under a Creative Commons license. Although I haven't read the book yet, a brief scan got me to thinking...where is the Internet going?

I think net neutrality is a huge key to moving the Internet into the future. What do you think?

Well, I think I used to believe something like that too - that Internet
would expand and by expansion remain uncontrollable (if I read you right?).

I am not that sure anymore. I am starting to believe that this will evolve
precisely the way that most everything else evolves - by making the user
increasingly more stupid as it evolves.

Internet will be for appliances, not for the free use of creative people.
You can continue to download stupid music and have your fridge order
six-packs for you, and so on 'ad infinitum', stuff that multinationals will
    put on their servers.

And. . .you can call me a cynic!

I am actually more worried about its technical aspects. Currently, internet is run on very ancient, obsolete technology (textual HTTP and stuff like that), and it is only the question of time when the money wasted will become significant.

Also, what will its role be in the incoming age of planetary colonization? First moon bases are promised within two decades. Earth-Moon RTT latency is too big for TCP/IP, new protocols will have to be invented, let alone interplanetary comm. with Mars.

So I'm actually saving money to start buying .luna and .mars domains as they become available. Mwahahaha!
