Re: Where's The dvd icon?
The DVD should show in Dolphin if you have 'Places' enabled
Re: Where's The dvd icon?
There should be an icon on the panel with a device manager popping up and offering you options on what to do with the device or medium in it.
But I don't understand what you're doing. Installing drivers from a CD? Did not know Samsung ships printers with linux drivers on CD...Sure this has worked?
Did you try the autodetection of the printer from Yast? Was the printer on during install?
Re: Where's The dvd icon?
Quite odd, did you try a logout/reboot?
I had issues with drive detection in KDE4 in the past especially in opensuse 11.1 but after reboot it worked.
11.2 seems much better at it, but different hardware, different computers, different issues.
Re: Where's The dvd icon?
Yes i have Places enabled and the only option from the pop up panel is 'copy with K3b' (not burn with Krb).
I have a Samsung Laser Printer 2240 and i have used the disk before with Mandriva, Ubuntu and Opensuse 11.1. It's only with 11.2 that i'm having problems with. By not using the disk i don't get as many options such as ink level.
Prior to going back to 11.1, i used the auto-detection successfully, but i have wysiwyg font problems - printout font size is the same irrespective of what is send to it.

Re: Where's The dvd icon?
Regardless of the options offered, you should still see the DVD or CD show in places.
Just what are you wanting it to do?
Re: Where's The dvd icon?
What i'd like is for the dvd to show up on desktop, places, and in the root folder as it does in 11.1 and other distro's. :)
I haven't tried using Gnome in opensuse so i can't say if it works with that, but for sure it works (on my system) in 11.1 with various Kde's but not in 11.2, and i'd like to know if it's a particular problem with the 11.2 Kernal and my system, or if others have experianced the same problem.

Re: Where's The dvd icon?
There is no problem, it's the way it is.
There is a new feature in my kde4.4 settings which allow auto mount of removable devices. But as it is there is no difference between clicking an icon on the desktop or in places.
You can add other options to the context menu that pops up, so you have more than k3b, but what option would you want in there?
Re: Where's The dvd icon?
I checked the context menu ( i believe you provided me with the information on how to do this in an earlier post), and all options are enabled, it's just that when this driver disk is inserted, there is no other option presented (apart from copy with K3b) that allows for me to open the disk for manual installation.
Only by installing 11.1 could i access the disk. It just seems odd that i cannot with 11.2.
Thanks for the inputs
Regards

three times you reference the "root directory" and it not having a DVD
icon show..
are you (maybe) logging into KDE4.2 as root?
