  1. Obligatory "Hello World"

Ok, I didn't realize that I have my own blog here. So I think nI'll be taking a little time to figure out what is here, what have other people done, and what I can do with this to make it useful.

  2. Foscam FI9831W IP-Camera with openSUSE-13.1

    .
This blog entry describes some of my early openSUSE-13.1 experiences with a Foscam FI9831W IP-Camera using openSUSE-13.1. First let me say this IP-Camera works well with my Android device (and WinXP under Virtual Box), albeit I don't yet have full native openSUSE GNU/Linux functionality.

One thing to note in general about most (all ?? ) IP-Camera(s), is they have in fact computers embedded inside, which run the GNU/Linux operating system, where that GNU/Linux is not observable ...

  3. liveKDE 64-bit openSUSE-13.1 on USB-3.0 memory stick

by , 07-Mar-2014 at 13:32 (oldcpu's meandering thoughts on Computers, GNU/Linux and openSUSE)
The liveKDE 64-bit openSUSE-13.1 works well on a USB-3.0 memory stick with my Toshiba Z930 Ultrabook's USB-3.0 port. In particular this is a 16 GB Sandisk Extreme USB Flash Drive and I have to say I am quite impressed with it.

[Memory stick plugged in to my Toshiba Ultrabook]

I installed the 64-bit .iso file for openSUSE-13.1 on the memory stick, using the application Image Writer, per the instructions ...

  4. DKMS + NVIDIA on openSUSE

NOTE: This will only work if all other NVIDIA installs have been removed
NOTE: This was made up for the 331.20 driver. The package will update to newer versions of the driver, currently 331.38
The package is in fact no more than a spec file, that
    • pulls in the appropriate NVIDIA.....run from NVIDIA's ftp site. If a 32bit openSUSE is installed then NVIDIA-x86-331.20.run will be downloaded, in case of a 64bit openSUSE the NVIDIA-x86_64-331.20.run.
    • runs the installer in a non-gui

  5. Skype-4.0/4.2 on openSUSE-13.1

by , 19-Nov-2013 at 15:46 (oldcpu's meandering thoughts on Computers, GNU/Linux and openSUSE)
Skype may have no sound or corrupted sound for some users on openSUSE-13.1 and this blog re-iterates what has been posted elsewhere in different places.

The method I use for installing skype is per the openSUSE wiki (where at the time of writing this blog entry it had advice labeled for openSUSE-12.3 that nominally should work for openSUSE-13.1).

I had no sound from skype-4.2.0.11 on my Toshiba Satellite Z930 Ultrabook after my openSUSE-13.1 GM installation.
