Default Matthias Ettrich Receives German Federal Cross of Merit

As noted in slashdot.org:
Quote:
"KDE founder Matthias Ettrich was decorated today with the German Federal Cross of Merit for his contributions to Free Software. The Federal Cross of Merit is both the most prestigious as well as the only general decoration awarded by the Federal Republic of Germany. It is awarded by the Federal President for outstanding achievements in the political, economic, cultural, and other fields. Matthias was awarded the medal in recognition of his work spurring innovation and spreading knowledge for the common good."
His original KDE announcement (back in 1996) is repeated here: KDE - KDE Project Announced

That is very good news. I definitely will confront people with this when they ask: "What is that KDE?" or when they doubt the value of open source software.

Well-deserved - I first encountered his name when I started using Klyx in 2000 and later found out what else he had been up to.

As a quintessential KDE user(I hope he gets to see this thread)

CONGRULATIONS MATTHIAS!!!

Without your KDE I'd never have gotten into Linux, and would still be a Windows serf.

Very nice indeed, and deserved too! Congrats...

hmmm, got me thinking. What did de Icaza got? I bet the golden Windows Medal of Honor by Steve Ballmer himself
