Default Linux owns 32% of the netbook market

Quote:
ABI Research is projecting that in 2009 Linux will represent 32 percent of netbook sales, far higher than the seven percent figure claimed by Microsoft, says a report. ABI estimates that Linux will overtake Windows on netbooks by 2013, largely due to sales in less-developed countries.
Linux owns 32 percent of netbook market, says study

Thumbs up Re: Linux owns 32% of the netbook market

Very nice news. Although I already stopped believing anything that comes from the desk of bigger industries. They pathologically lie. I would have expected a higher percentage but I am positively surprised by this high figure. Even if we consider a certain positive "bias" than still this is an important point. Because what you use on your net-book gets you away from FUD. So these people are not going to belief the b.s. anymore that comes from marketing-agencies. and this paramount.
(personally I am convinced you can make huge money with opensource software, but it is probably as the sales manager of a large IT industry told me on a train - this ends up that we have to work to make all this money.....no way! - gives an idea about the industry being "diffident". Right?). It is just that they have to face real competition then.

Whats that they say about statistics ? .... hmm ... I confess sometimes when statistics are thrown about, I do not know what to believe. 32% reads to be rather on the high side, if I were to guess based on my small acquaintences/friends/colleagues who have netbooks. But then, I live in Europe and maybe its outside North America and outside Europe where the Linux netbooks are more prevalent ?

Something probably went wrong in this statistic... 32% it's impossible.

Maybe Asia. At least here in Germany there's hardly a Linux based Netbook left in the shops, all XP and soon Windows 7.

Hi
This came with XP Home had to boot into this morning to help a friend
change some internet settings in the control panel. I took him numerous
requests to figure out he was using IE.

Me: What browser are you using?
User: No I'm not using a browser
Me: But you want to change the cookie setting, so what browser do you
use on the internet?
User: Ummm the one that gets me to my homepage
Me: OK, is that firefox or IE
User: I don't know the icon I click on that's on the desktop that says
AT&T Internet
Me: OK, so your at your home page now, see the menu item at the that
says help, look in there.
User: Ahh it says Internet Explorer
<sigh>

Here In Canada. The vast majority of the Netbooks are loaded with Windows XP. The only other option at the time of purchase is Linpus Linux. Which is loaded on some Acer Netbooks.

More here:

ABI's Jeffrey Orr on rising Linux netbook sales

Quote:
Orr: There may have been a dip in Linux netbook share last year, but Linux has rebounded, in large part due to international sales. We tend think about ourselves here in the U.S., and I'm always having to check myself and say hey, we're not the market. It matters what's happening out there.
