According to the supposed "experts" at Gizmodo, it's Linux' fault that they propogated vuruses to millions of people!
BBC NEWS | Technology | Scareware launched from tech blog Quote (in case they decide to change it) - Blaming the fact that staff used Linux operating systems on their production machines for "not noticing sooner". Unbelievable!

yep, everyone needs someone to blame...if ignorant, it is easy to blame what you don't understand.. -- palladium |

What makes it worse is the fact that they (from what is written in the article) use Linux themselves!
It's always easy to push the blame onto the one who can't fight back, would they have said the same thing if it was Windows that had not detected a Linux virus? And anyway, why should a Linux system check for a Windows virus? Windows virus checkers don't check for Amiga/Atari/Commodore64/BeOS/OS2/Xenix/OSX viruses either. Would they blame Microsoft for the spread of those viruses? Of course not because Microsoft's lawyers would have them bent over a table with their pants down in no time at all! I apologise to the sensitive, but that article made my blood boil!

I think they could have worded that slightly better.
Reading the BBC article, I got the impression Gizmodo are blaming staff for not noticing the virus, and the reason they didn't notice sooner was because they were running a Linux so didn't get infected by anything and presumed nothing was wrong The hidden implication here is that if the staff were running Windows and had got infected, they would have noticed sooner ![]() Gotta laugh at that. Thumbs down to both Gizmodo & the BBC for making it sound like Linux was at faulty, when in fact Linux had saved the staff from the virus!

Hm... I´m thinking about constructing a small reply from the community. Somehow I feel a little stomped with dirty feet. It makes me angry and I totaly agree with weighty_foe's posting.
Even if it doesn´t really matter what those (somewhat immature) kids say, in my opinion they deserve a small reply in an adequate tone for their "great" conclusions. What do you think?

I like to believe that the BBC try to be fair in their reporting, and that when corrections are offered they at least consider them. Hopefuly I'm not wrong

just wonderful!
the way Gizmodo wrote it, it doesn't sound like a Linux *caused* problem--the original: "Guys, I'm really sorry but we had some malware running on our site in ad boxes for a little while last week on Suzuki ads. They somehow fooled our ad sales team through an elaborate scam. It's taken care of now, and only a few people should have been affected, but this isn't something we take lightly as writers, editors and tech geeks. (And we would have noticed sooner except everyone on staff is on OS X or Linux for production machines.) Everything should be cleared up but you should be checking "qegasysguard.exe" if you're experiencing random popups. Be careful, load up some antivirus and make sure your system is clean. I'm sorry." http://gizmodo.com/5390520/apologies...ads-on-gizmodo -- palladium |
