Otherwise, we're just geeks - we do it because we can

Looks very good here (so far). In particular the desktop effects look 100% better. They worked OK w/ 180.22 - 185.18.36, but only OK. Now they look crisp and clean w/ 190.42.
Too early to say much more though.

The only problem I have is YaST has told me it has a dependency problem, I suspect its because its compiled for the wrong kernel. Message is : nothing provides kernel-timing xxxxx. As long as it works installed the hard way I'm happy. -- Russ [openSUSE 11.2 (8 2.6.31.5-0.1-default x86_64] KDE 4.3.2 release 2, Intel Core 2 Dual E7200. 4 GB DDR III GeForce 8400 GS, 320GB Disc (2) |

followup: After a few hours of playing since updating to 190.42 I'm very happy with this version. A whole lot of annoying minor little video quirks that have plagued this system since I put OpenSUSE on it a year and a half ago now appear to be resolved. I recommend that anyone with a video card similar to the GeForce 8700M try it.
(I always install Nvidia drivers "the hard way". It takes less than two minutes and is easier than the so-called "easy" ways and a heck of a lot more reliable.)
