Whats the reason its best to do a fresh install rather than upgrade from M8?

Cheers
Steve

Fixed scripts, less chaos, there can always be some changes that will leave some cruft after an upgrade. A clean install is ALWAYS recommended and that is the case with ALL operating systems.

Yes. I could just reinstall now. I'm just experimenting/learning/testing. Eventually I would like to know the openSUSE procedure for upgrading. I plan to stick with openSUSE. The learning curve coming from Ubuntu is not trivial. (Part of that is due to switching to KDE, part is leaving the Debian fold, etc.).

BTW, when I was running Ubuntu I had really good results just upgrading through several cycles. (I would often go from beta to release to next beta to next release by just continually upgrading. Always worked superb. Eventually, I would do a clean install, but usually because of a major hardware change.)

Usually this will do the job, open terminal and become root and type:
Code:
zypper dup
But maybe there is some update tool like Ubuntu in 11.2 release.

Most interesting ... I've been pondering the meaning of the upside down "6" in "caf4929" (ie the "6" that looks like a "9") and the upside down "9" (ie the "9" that looks like a "6") ... This is DEFINITE food for thought ....
  • Was this caf4926 trying to hide his identity ?
  • Has their been a bias in the this distro release based on applications and desktops that caf4926 is known to favour ?
  • Has this release been biased to work best on PC hardware in caf4926's abode ?
  • Is there some more nefarious functionality at work ?
Inquiring minds want to know!!

Interesting. I see KDE-4.3.1.

I confess I have not been following the KDE discussions for 11.2. Does this mean 11.2 will be released with KDE-4.3.1 (and not KDE-4.3.2) ? Given the "freeze" that must be in place for 11.2, I'm wondering if it will come out with a patched 4.3.1 as opposed to 4.3.2 ?

If so, I suspect there will be many users who want to see an update guide to KDE-4.3.2. ... I guess we will just need to sit back and watch.

That was the plan at least. So there would have to be some major move to change that.

Hmmm but as we know 4.3.2 was mainly a bugfix release right? And from what i heard is that Novell backports those fixes so we end up with 4.3.2 essentially/
