i find it interesting that the botnet they study exist only in lashed
together compromised Windows machines...but, these "computer
scientist" are wise enough to not try to undo bot-nets _with_ a
million Windows kernels..

That was probably a funding issue. I wouldn't want to fork the bill for 1 million licensed windows copies.
