a few days ago i found packman and VLC repos for openSUSE factory (11.2), which have been missing until now. i was expecting to see this announced somewhere, but either it wasn't or i missed it. here are the URLs:
Index of /suse/factory Index of /pub/pub/vlc/SuSE/11.2/ don't know about all packman mirrors, but skynet's got it too. i was using fluendo's & gstreamer earlier to decode mp3 (to listen to shoutcast servers, which mostly use mp3), but that's kind of buggy. now xine plays mp3 as well and doesn't need the fluendo stuff. |

VLC has had 11.2 packages for a few months already. I wasn't aware that Packman had 11.2 packages. Thanks for the link.

strange; four weeks or so ago i was looking for VLC factory repos and couldn't find them. compiled the player from trunk, succeeding after resolving a bunch of dependencies, but it wouldn't start, so i gave up. must have missed the repos then, fool me...

probably underdeveloped rather than 'castrated.' the latter would imply that they'll never grow to full size. i think they're being developed now, and mp3 and other codecs support is something that many users want to have on their boxes.

I'm not sure if they would want to compile every possible package for 11.2 (which is in fact still in development) and then compile it again because there have been some changes. I guess they compiled only the necessary stuff and will start compiling the rest after RC1 ?

I understand
Anyway, it's good that we can download necessary codecs for M7

actually it's M8 now. that's what my install says after the latest zypper up today...

You maybe right but it's probable that not all packages are on M8 level. the "real" M8 will be packaged on the 1 October. Right now you probably have the /etc/issue file updated
