Dell renews Ubuntu Linux desktop lineup - Computerworld Blogs
"Despite Microsoft's claims that there's no customer support for Linux, you can find Dell's support numbers, along with other support information for your Ubuntu-equipped Dells, on this Dell Ubuntu support page. If you've been thinking about switching to a Linux netbook, laptop, or desktop, it's time to visit Dell. They have some nice hardware at prices anyone can afford and with the support you need to get going with desktop Linux." ...i m sure this Hardware works with openSUSE the same way!

In fact I would say that one gets NO support when buying a Microsoft O/S!
Has anyone ever tried to ring, or even email Microsoft with a question? It is impossible, after being asked for your credit card details you will be told to search online or contact your hardware vendor! When you buy a copy of openSUSE or SLED, you get immediate email support!

So that explains why the same spec Del pc with linux is more than the windows one - after all, someone has to pay for his pc.

Interesting development, given that their Linux based systems had previously been cut back somewhat (if I remember rightly. I remember hearing about some of the decent notebooks/netbooks/desktops they were selling with Ubuntu pre-installs and being disappointed at what was actually on offer).
Quite a few trolls in the comments though. Of course, I daresay there's a few of the annoying and slightly unsettling hyper-evangelists there too, which kind of balances it out. I wince whenever I read a post by either group. |

Bought 3 Dell Laptops over the years and it was in September of 2006 was the second one. Insisting that it come with no OS for I had 9.1 pro and wanted to do the install..Couldn't do is as was explained that the agreements with MS and support were tied in with the WinXP and Dell.
Made a big stink and begone to cancel the order as the sales Rep dropped the price of $79.00 so went though. Last week was on Dell's site and recognized Linux was offered. Came around with a better feeling that change is slow and MS will have to change also. Have a huge desire to learn Networking for home use, for this one that I use here is over 7 years old and plan as a server. Installed Ver:11 after formatting WinXP out of completely. Quick note..NY Times - Tech section.. MS is offering Ver: 7 for selected applicants beta form for $29.00 hoping to lure students mostly. This is about the same that I spent for a Big manual with Ver penSuSe 11. And this whole community has the greatest when it comes to support.tom

I have been told that the reason computers sold with linux from companies like Dell are as expensive or more expensive than those with Windows is because MS makes them pay for every computer whether it has windows or not. Don't know of the truth of that though.
