Cool, my Xfi should work out of the box! That's another manual driver installation gone. Hope they improved Ath5k as well so I won't have to use Madwifi.
This version should be in 11.2 right?

also, how do I install this kernel in 11.1? I am currently downloading it at work (sshhh, don't tell my boss he hasn't blocked .tar.bz2 files) and just wondering what do I do when I'm home. Is it a simple extract, ./configure, make, make install?

Good news for 11.2. Thanks microchip, especially for the links.

- make - make modules_install - make install Personally, I'll just wait to appear in the SUSE HEAD kernel repo and grab the source RPM from there, then do that above. Always has worked for me

I'm a big chicken when it comes to installing kernels. I should be able to keep my current one and just select the kernel in grub with that method, right?

If however you want to just install the already compiled 2.6.31 kernel RPM and keep your distro default too, you must enable support for parallel installs in zypper or else it's overwrite oyur existing kernel. You can do that in /etc/zypp/zypp.conf - look for the multiversion variable and set the names of the packages in there, eg kernel-default,kernel-smp,kernel-desktop ..... Note that SUSE 2.6.31 kernels are compiled with a different GCC version so if oyu need to install prop drivers afterwards you may encounter problems as some installers like the NV one will whine about this, though you can force them to ignore it and it may work... dunno really since I always use one & the same compiler for all kernels as I compile them myself
