Default Google announces Chrome OS

Official Google Blog: Introducing the Google Chrome OS

The kernel is Linux, the windowing system is new, and the browser is Chrome.

Well, well, well... things are getting interesting in the netbook arena.

I like the line -

"The news could also be a blow to the open source Linux operating system" from the BBC.

They really need to start interviewing their "journalists" before employing them!

Yeah, all the reporter had to do was to read the blog to discover that the underlying OS is in fact Linux. Such is the standard of journalism these days.

I suppose it could be bad for linux - maybe it's rubbish. Anyway, they seem to have removed that line.

Interesting that they're claiming it's totally separate from Android. I wonder how long a company can develop two linux based operating systems in parallel for - unless they just mean the GUI will be totally different.

Things are just starting to get interesting! And considering the state of Windows 7 I think Microsoft is loosing ground and loosing focus.

I still say that things are going to really heat up once Microsoft shareholders and stakeholders get fed up enough that there is a coup/cleansing of the top level in Microsoft, and some fresh blood gets into those rooms.

But Microsoft is going to have to take some major beatings to get to that point.

Then the real fireworks begin!

Actually, Win7, and I hate to admit it, is pretty solid and much better than Vista. Some would also argue it's an improvement over XP too...

How do you find the user permissions and access rights? To me it all leaves a lot to be desired. Totally bonkers they way it's setup IMO.
