Give us a try and I bet you'll see it takes only minutes to hours most
of the time to get an answer to your question.

hmmmmmm...there is something bad wrong with that "1,001 guests"..

well, i guess a bunch of them could be search engine crawlers,
spam-house eAddress harvesters, a few actual guests coming in to read
hits served up by google et al, and another few actual 'users'
trekking in via nntp (and therefore counted as 'guest'), like myself...
You seem to be assuming that members actually sign in, whereas it's highly likely that many members browse (as guests) without signing in until they need to post, given the short time to auto signoff. Along with googlers, nntpers, and global availability, 1000 isn't that difficult to achieve, really.

So it's over 30000 registrations. Congratulations !!!!!!

And newcomers regard the forums as lively. Congratulations !!!!!!

An average person in a group of five has an average of four people around him or her.....

It's all not that important. What is important, is that the forums have developped into a very active community, all this in such a short time. Congratulations again and again !!!!!!

I'll have to get used to writing in English. The forum seems very responsive. Sorry for the confusion

That works both ways...

Some forums, which may be faster, become an echo-box of inexperienced (though well meaning) people recycling the same workarounds. If a complicated question gets posted, it disappears off the front page before anyone with sufficient knowledge to address it gets to see it, and it's likely never seen again.

Personally, I'd rather get the correct answer by waiting a day or two (as I have sometimes here), than only an inadequate one immediately.

what you describe is a big problem with the web interface..

which i easily overcome by using Thunderbird (there are many others)
to access/read/write via NNTP (Network News Transfer Protocol)..

Thunderbird lines up ALL posts by date (just like the email reader it
is), and ALL unread posts are easily found..

so, while the complicated question posted 12 hours ago might be "off
the front page" for you and all other web interface users, it will be
right near the top of unread posts for me..

think about it, and give it a try:

and, Have Fun!

Or you could simply avoid login and select "Todays Posts" for a chronological listing of posts. The benefit since you start not logged in everything displays quicker. As for 30,000: good for openSUSE. Although the number is inflated by the consolidation of Forums members going back much further than one year.

Nope. We merged much of the old content and archived it, but no member
accounts were ported. All member accounts are unique to OSF.
