Default Opera 10 Unite

Hi Everyone.

Opera 10 beta has a unique function called Opera Unite. It is supposed to make your web browser a Web server. No prior knowledge needed.

From the reports, it looks very promising. Currently, its still in its beta stages with a few bugs to sort out but its a good idea. Hopefully, it would opera to have a bigger market share.

A little more on the product.

File Sharing

Media Player: Access your complete home music library from wherever you are

The lounge: Invite friends to chat with you. Doubt this would really take off if we already use our favourite IMs

Web server: To allow you to host your own websites

The Fridge: I like this one the best, although it brings serious security risks IMO.

The great thing about all these features, is that you can enable only the ones you want to use and also its available for all platforms. Pretty sweet IMO Imagine having the same service as google or gotomypc from home without having to be a tekkie or allowing one to help you set it up.

This was my first post in this area of the forums. Not accustomed to this sort of thing.

Check out the Links that i've provided.

Well not bad idea. Hope they will idiotproof it well File sharing will be easier. It won't make torrents and file sharing sites obsolete though. Opera makes great browser and has some very good ideas. But it's not the inventions that make a browser market share bigger. It's marketing. I have Chrome and Opera 9.94 on a windows install and they feel pretty much the same (fast and clean) but Google has much more marketing powers so it has bigger market share. Sadly it's not the quality and innovations that matter

Things are improving though. Opera is getting more and more (deserved)attention from the online media.

The Opera Unite service, which is similar to a http service, actually works, but barely. In 95% of a browser's request to open a user's web site:

http://mypc.myusername.operaunite.co...erver/content/

the browser says:

503 Service Unavailable
No server is available to handle this request.
Connection Interrupted

In 8% of attempts, the browser says:

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

In 1% of attempts, the browser shows the Opera Unite's member's web page, often incomplete.

And in 0.5% of attempts, the browser actually delivers, say, a large file.

There are so many betas in the world... Maybe the authors have seen too many rehearsals of "Madama Butterfly." (Seeing a rehearsal is far more easier that seeing a real evening performance.)
