Novell and Microsoft: The Linux business continues - News - The H Open Source: News and Features
"In the last six months, Microsoft and Novell have signed more than 100 new customers for Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) as part of their 2006 collaboration agreement. According to Microsoft, this is double the sign-on rate for the first two years of the agreement with Novell."

Interesting... But, is there any catch?

I'm looking forward to Microsoft actually finding a way to own Novell and SuSE. At that point - things will get fixed and updates and upgrades will always or almost always work. I'm so tired of being expected to be a better user for the Linux establishment to disregard me and tell me if I want to play I should participate more. I've spent several hundreds of dollars on buying Linux flavors and especially SuSE before it became OpenSuse and even the Germans treated me better than Novell SuSE. I think it's time to start lobbying for a Novell Group with better manners. I am the customer and unlike most Americans that are stupid - I don't just buy into any old story. Either be nicer or quit your own selves.

This will hardly pass regulation, if at all. Novell owns the UNIX copyright which is very important piece of copyright, so if MS buys them, they'll hold the UNIX copyright which they can abuse to flush out their competitors, most of them UNIX-based/like - with this in hands, they can take the SCO rout and even if they don't win, it's enough to scare people even more and thus damage MS' UNIX-based/like competitors. Also, don't be fooled. Novell has been battling MS in courts for many years now (cases are still ongoing today) and is certainly not such an MS friend as you may think it is.
