Carrying on from this discussion, do you believe the community here would benefit from having a forum dedicated to discussing security issues, or do you believe security issues are best handled inline in the existing forums?

My thoughts are;
While it can be handled here it would be more productive I think to start one just for security issues. Security is very important to all of us and is a big deal these days. If you have one forum with all security issues it would keep things nice and neat plus make it easier to search. Couldn't hurt to try it either way. Even if it is on a trial period. Setting won't be hard to set it up. If it doesn't work out then nothing is lost and that forum can be dropped. How ever if it does work out it would be another plus for the OpenSuse community. Can't have Google searched bringing up Ubuntu all the time, like to see more SuSe coming up, lol

lol. Not what I mean. But, even if I use Suse 11.1 in my searches I still end up seeing more Ubuntu then Suse at times, depending on what I am looking for. If I look for something for Linux in general, then I see Ubuntu most of the time.

Edit: Also this is not the only forum I am par of. I am with two other Linux forums mainly for the security issues. I am sure I am not the only one here that does that.

> the time. when it comes to security (which _is_ what we are talking about, right?), most anything that is good for Ubuntu is good for openSUSE, Red Hat, Debian, SLED and et cetera _and_ vice versa.. so, what i am saying is: go ahead and look at the security tips discussed for/by/in Ubuntu forums/users/etc as it is highly likely that if it _is_ useful to a brown background, it is also useful to a green (or red, or etc) background AS LONG AS it is a Linux background.. on the other hand, if it is only good for the BSOD-OS that is a different matter, entirely. -- goldie |

Yes, I agree. However, some solutions (eg search for programs are relevant to both .deb-based and RPM based distributions)
