Default Donations to Opensuse team

Instead of buying a boxed set which gives a printed quick install manual (which is not as good as the older suse manuals for teaching linux) I would rather make a donation to the opensuse team of say $5 (or euro) for each version downloaded.

As an old pc user that grew up in the days of shareware and BBS's, I have the philosophy that if you regularly use someone's software, give him a donation.
I don't feel the need to buy a boxed set of opensuse since bandwidth has increased and I can download the latest release in a few hours at no extra cost, unlike the old days when it took several days cost a lot!
Nowdays, Dvd's are cheap and most of the cost of the boxed set goes to postage and printing.
Instead of buying a boxed set which gives a printed quick install manual (which is not as good as the older suse manuals for teaching linux) I would rather make a donation to the opensuse team of say $5 (or euro) for each version downloaded - This would cover you for the whole life of the version.
At least this way, in the present times, we could keep suse at the top of the castle and not lose valuable talent.
What is the general feeling?

I'm sure you can donate to the KDE project, a lot of openSUSE developers are active in it. I'm not sure that Novell employees could accept donations, but what do I know.

What about donating to the openSUSE project? I believe it is a non-profit organization that technically "owns" openSUSE, even though a number of developers also work for Novell.

Novell may defer the costs (hostings, marketing, etc) but it is only a "sponsor" and not one-and-the-same.

That's my understanding.

@swerdna has a donation link on his pages to support all his services (are we allowed to mention that)
Not quite the same thing I know. I seem to recall at one time there was some encouragement to support Packman, I know I have done. I think that was before the new forum though, so a while ago.

Community support should never be under estimated. The more the better.
