Default openSUSE 11.1 Remastered?

Do you agree with me that openSUSE 11.1 really needs a remastered version? Cause now it's just unusable...

Well, I won't call it unusable but installing it to my new notebook I had serveral probs which I didn't have installing 10.3 (I passed to 11.1 cause of the included support of the nics).
  1. Sound didn't work out of the box.
  2. Media keys still don't work (even with hacked kernel).
  3. K3B didn't work properly with the default settings.
  4. Included vmware didn't work. I had to install an update from another ressource.
  5. Some other minor problems.

Installing Linux on notebooks always is a pain but after installing 10.3 everything worked fine without the wifi nic. So it is possible with my notebook (Asus).

my 2 cents

Bye

Erik

openSUSE-11.1 is the only SuSE version in which both wireless and sound will work on my Dell Studio 15 laptop. Indeed it is one of the very few Linux distributions that work well with my Laptop.

I have also installed 11.1 (with KDE-3.5.10) on 3 other PCs, all of different hardware. Without doubt openSUSE-11.1 with KDE-3.5.10 is the best out of the box version of KDE that I have used yet, and on that hardware (4 different PCs) openSUSE-11.1 is most certain superior than any other openSUSE version, and superior on that hardware to any other Linux distribution that I have used to date.

Hi
I totally agree, however on my first attempt I had problems with using
the images on my slow dvd drive in this notebook, once I disabled this
feature the install worked fine. The other installs on a via pico itx
and main machine AMD 4400+ X2 with an EN8600 GTS were without any
hiccups.

I have been playing around with KDE4 on a separate partition with
this notebook and didn't have any issues with my limited playing around
(except no bluetooth icon). I have since updated to KDE 4.2 alas
still no bluetooth icon

Looking forward to openSUSE 11.2 (and SLED11! )

I agree. I wonder if we'll actually see a remastered version, but this reason alone is worth it. Before the fix came down every time the YaST bootloader module would mess up my MBR I'd have to revert to using my oS 11.0 disc to salvage the situation (I like to test distros on a separate partition in addition to VM).

If it wasn't for that 11.0 disc, using oS11.1 would be a lot more frustrating. A remastered DVD would make things easier, especially since the DVD repair tools are similarly affected.

10.3 was far stable than 11.1, I love that.
The only reason I use 11.1 is the much easier multimedia install and the better hardware support.

I am a bit disappointed in 11.x but still hope 11.3 will be awesome again.

as I see this boot loader case really hurts to you

I lost a 3 year old Windows XP install because of it, along with a ton of data.

Hmmm

For my (HP 6710b) everything worked okey. Compiz still has some breaks (while changing or closing some apps: skype for example), but that's the only unstable feature of 11.1.

One of the most stable 64bit distros, that's for sure. After wine tunning, adding java and flash support, it just works.

Didn't have any major crashes since. Although I cant play any 3D games (EVE, Linux FPS, and stuff). Also 3D apps (Google Earth, Elisa) have problems displaying the content (I think the 64bit Mesa and Intel drivers still need a lot of work). But those are the things I don't use for my everyday work.

So in general.. it's stable for me (although it could run a little faster on such a config, as mine)
