Gosh, an old thread resurrected. I missed this thread (I must have been busy doing other things when it first came out).

I am very much into multi-booting ... My main reasons are:
  • OS (and hence application) flexibility it provides
  • independent hardware "health" assessment it can provide
  • BIOS update ease when the manufacturer insists on only providing software for updating BIOS on the MS-Windows OS system

Reference the PC's in our family:
  • My main PC - dual boot between WinXP and openSUSE-10.3
  • My test PC - tri-boot between free dos, openSUSE-11.1, fedora-10
  • My wife's PC - dual boot between WinXP and openSUSE-10.3
  • My mother's PC - tri-boot between WinME, WinXP and openSUSE-10.2
  • our old laptop - dual boot between WinXP and openSUSE-10.3
  • our new laptop - dual boot between Win Vista and openSUSE-11.1.

Single boot (Suse11.0) but one of of the computers I have a WindowsXP Virtual machine. Only because iTunes 8 doesn't work with Wine, GRRR!

Currently, just a desktop running DBAN

LOL, hopefully by the end of today I will have my desktop dual boot XP/OpenSuse 11.1

I believe my wife will want me to install 11.1 on her laptop once she sees what this is all about.

She has been bugging me to install linux for a while now. Since she saw that I was bored with running the scripts on the network drive (I have scripted the world with that thing and there is nothing left to do).

I don't know if she would want a dual boot or just linux though. We need at least one puter with XP for M$ programs.

My 3 servers DS5000 single boot opensuse 11.0 ( of course ) LAMP plus apps

my 2 newest working laptops ( Ferrari 5000 + Travelmate 7520G ) single boot opensuse 11.0
my very oldest laptop ( Ferrari 4000 ) dual boot

For all future most likely only single boot opensuse. There are no longer any open wishes for work-related apps and features/functionalities in opensuse.

I am using triple-boot on my current desktop PC (the second one is mainly aimed at gaming and office work - for the rest of my family). To be exact it consists of OpenSuse 11.1 x86_64 at first place, then Fedora 10 64bit too and finally there is holding place WinXP SP3 only for very odd & improbable backup purposes (this info excepts other OS used for testing in VirtualBox). Anyway have a nice day all

Hallo all,
my latest PC was shipped with Vista. Harddrive was big enough so i installed dual boot with Suse 10.3. After some testing with Vista I removed it and installed a SuSE-only PC with a RAID 0 system. Now it is working faster, better, nicer.
