Post openSUSE chameleons name

Is the official name for openSUSE mascot chameleon "Geeko"? I find it irritating!

...The winners will get all the fame and a stuffed Geeko! So get your pencils/mice/brains ready ...
Looked up some old maling lists and found out that there was a vote and Geeko was chosen?!

If u take the word geek ("a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, gaming, etc." ) and the word gecko ("Geckos are small to average sized lizards belonging to the family Gekkonidae" and put it togeather u get Geeko.

Thats all fine BUT:
Chameleons and geckos are not the same

Gecko

Scientific classification
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Reptilia
Order: Squamata
Suborder: Lacertilia
Family: Gekkonidae

Chameleon

Scientific classification
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Reptilia
Order: Squamata
Suborder: Iguania
Family: Chamaeleonidae

I love SUSE and learn something from it every day, Im not a programer or expert on linux but Im a student of biology & ecology and these things poke my eyes.

I call for a referendum!

It's too late the geeko is well known already, changing it will just creaqte confusion.
As a biology student maybe in the future ,research and experiment on how you can cross breed those two species to correct this geeko mistake.

In order for two lizards to hybridize, their genetics have to be soooooooooooooo close to each other and these to differ from suborder, so it cant be done

I dont know about that, its not like a revolution is going start. It would be better for marketing if its corrected. Whats a Geeko anyway?

Hmmnn, What's a geeko. The meaning will be defined when the cross breeding will be successful

If you are the one who did that illustration, you have a talent. Why don't you try the yast mascot contest, who knows you might be able to create a nice yast mascot out from your creative imagination and win

Refer to this link for info.

I assume that Novell won't care much about this poll <G>

Anyway, I like "Geeko". Yes, the reference to Geckos is biologically incorrect, but life is like that: Next time in the supermarket, check where you find tomatoes (vegetables, although it is a fruit) and strawberries (fruit, although it is a nut).
