OpenSUSE project moves to fixed cycle for future releases - Ars Technica

I have a lot of time for the Red Hat developers.

That quote is wrong. Its FLAT WRONG. It has to be challenged, and challenged now !! (I missed this thread earlier). Where do you get that from? Nothing could be further from the truth than that!

Actually, it's somewhat true. Fedora is on many occasions the first distro to include bleeding edge stuff, like Pulse audio, SELinux, Kernel Mode Settings, Ext4 *by default*, etc

SUSE adopted PA after Fedora did, SUSE still doesn't have SELinux integrated (though it's due to other reasons like AppArmor but SELinux is coming), SUSE still doesnt have KMS and Ext4 (though that's coming)

Sure ... no dispute there for some of that. But openSUSE has also been the first at times in other areas.

But to state, and so there is no dispute, I quote:
Code:
while openSUSE just picks up what's been done/tested
is not correct.

Nice of Red Hat to develop and test zypper so SuSE-GmbH could pick up on it and use it. Nice of Red Hat to develop and test YaST so SuSE-GmbH could pick up on it and use it. < sarcasm here >

Its nice there is this piece of Novell supported projects:
Novell Supported Projects - openSUSE
because we know openSUSE does not adopt any of it unless debian or Red Hat do it first.

And if one believes all of my sarcasm above, I have a bridge in SanFrancisco to sell, plus some prime Real Estate in Florida to sell at pre-subprime crash prices

I was more referring to *global* software that eventually ends up in most if not all Linuxes
zypper & YaST are SUSE-centric pieces
