I found your note See below NOTE. I want you to know I'm thankful for SuSE contributors efforts but I think that changing the runlevel scripts was a waste of time. A huge waste of time, I'm going to spend the next two hours learning your NEW system. multiply that two hours of my time by the number of UNIX geeks in the world. Why mess with something that has worked well for decades. I hope I'm not alone when I ask that you put that back the way it was when you found it. Please. RedHat and Debian have not changed this and nether should SuSE.
NOTE: Hi! Some people expect the system startup scripts in /etc/rc.d/. We use a slightly different structure for better LSB compliance. You can find the equivalent files in /etc/init.d/. The behaviour of the scripts can be configured in the files below the directory /etc/sysconfig/. For detailed information please have a look into the SuSE Linux manual. If you don't have a printed manual, you can find the electronic version in /docu on the first CDROM or in the package 'books.rpm'. You may also want to read /etc/init.d/README for more information. Have a lot of fun Your SuSE Team |

To completely show the level of incompetence the TE has, three little details.
1) The standard path for init-scripts has been /etc/init.d/ for several years now, not only under openSUSE, but .... 2) RedHat and Debian use /etc/init.d/ for init-scripts as well (to be precise, distros usingg BSD-style init are the only ones still using /etc/rc.d, examples might be Arch and Slackware) 3)and to put the cherry on top: Code:
ls -l /etc/rc.d lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Feb 2 20:27 /etc/rc.d -> init.d

In this case _yes_, because you can NOT miss out the rc-scripts, no matter if you use /etc/rc.d or /etc/inint.d, it is just not possible.
So the only explanation is that we are dealing with a troll here.

If he was able to find the rc.* scripts, he bloody well should've seen that they were nothing more than symlinks. What kind of an "IT professional" can't see that?

What kind of an "IT > professional" can't see that? All of which may be true, but there's no "rule" that says that (a) we have to respond in kind, and (b) that we have to keep kicking the OP in any such thread when he's down. Again, it feeds into the whole idea that Linux users can't act like adults, and that helps those who compete against Linux. Jim |
