Hi everyone,
it won`t go in Suse,but I try live cd (suse) it works and I try Fedora 10 I doesn`t work.
Next I try Mandriva 2009.1 and the last I will reinstall Suse11.1.

What I can see om my MSI x58 the top of the line is working with suse

and it recognize my Nvidia GTX 295 is working to yes.
Next step is to install SuSe

Glad to read it. What you could do, before you install, while openSUSE is running from the liveCD, is record some configuration information. And thus you will have that handy in case things do not work when you install openSUSE.

Things like:

part or all of the liveCD's /etc/X11/xorg.conf
output of running (with PC connected to Internet):
/usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh

Of course, you can always run the liveCD later, if you have problems after the install, to see what those functional settings were.

Note, reference graphic drivers, you can tell what keyboard and graphic driver is being used by typing:

grep -i driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf

For example

vesa - VESA graphic driver
nv - nVidia openGL driver
nvidia - proprietary nVidia driver
ati, radeon, radeonhd - ATI openGL drivers
fglrx - ATI proprietary driver

I have acer aspire 3680 laptop (Old model), with 1.5G RAM and 1.7Mhz Processor, 60Gig HDD. This is my personal laptop.
I love Linux from the day, i involved into it. My laptop Wireless card is not working, so i am using external card for internet.
I installed 10.3,11.0. But all these versions does not love my card and always had problems while connecting and browsing internet. So i had no choice except to use M$ for time being. I used other Linux distros, the result were the same.
2 weeks ago i installed opensuse 11.1 Gnome on this laptop and everything works like a charm. But to tell you: I always have very bad experience with Gnome desktop, i love it. But it was never stable for me. I tried to use in my office PC too, always got into troubles, So i am using 11.0 with KDE 4.2.2 in my office PC.

After one week of this installation, system started some nice behaviour, which i mentioned above, that i had bad experience with Gnome. After trying and trying, every thing brooked and i had to use M$ again, it was dual boot, so i had not to install M$ again.

4 days ago i download Mandriva 2009.1 with KDE, and installed it with M$ with dual boot removing 11.1 Gnome. Till now i'm using it, trying to break the things, i have to say. That it works very well than others.
Here M$ stands M$ XP SP3.

So the conclusion is, that different distros works well with different types of PCs and laptops. Not necessary, that every distro pick up all your hardwares.

I had always problem with my wireless card, but from kernel 2.6.27 and onwards, its works fine.
Mandriva came with 2.6.29 and KDE 4.2.2.
Another thing, while using all KDE versions, except series 3.5, KDE 4.2.2 is stable version so far (Just for me, may be for others too).

So i am using openSUSE 11.0 KDE 4.2.2 and Mandriva 2009.1 KDE 4.2.2.

You are in cahoots with 'oldcpu'. He's a lucky guy too. All new stuff.

I'd be surprised if Fedora or Mandriva didn't work. It's good that SUSE seems to. It's good to get the feel of things before committing either way. Install is quick and you can soon get the feel of how things will be.

I have to make short but not to short.
I could get a ASUS for $3700 tax incl. I told my self no the price in 2 years will be $1000 Canadian tax incl.
The other is I am far far behind oldcpu and you caf4926.
Ok when I get my computer my friend exchange with a new LG DVD hardware for free,lucky me but I burn few disk in linux and see if is working Mandriva first time after I update I get black screen with _that so I reinstall it from there the problem started.

oldcpu and caf4926 I`m just using my wife laptop right now and at the same time I`m in Mandriva forum and looking for one answer.He all of you helping me thank and I will open now a new Thread.

I get suse running yes with only one monitor

and updated everything and see what will happen in few second when I reboot it

Typically, after one encounters a black screen, and assuming one has the driver on one's system, that what works most the time is to first backup one's /etc/X11/xorg.conf file (which is the configuration file for one's graphics) and then update that file using the tool "sax2" with root permissions. There are many ways to do run this tool (type "man sax2" with root permissions to learn the options).

For example, assuming, one is trying the nVidia openGL driver "nv", and assuming one has only one graphic card and one monitor (and not more than one) then one way to run that tool is to type:
