Thread: Problem with Broadcom (Dell) Wireless Suse 12.2 64 Bit

Default Problem with Broadcom (Dell) Wireless Suse 12.2 64 Bit

I have a new Dell inspiron with a Broadcom Wlan card.
    The chipset is Broadcom 4365.

    > /sbin/lspci -nnv
    Code:
02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation Device [14e4:4365] (rev 01)
            Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:0016]
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11
            Memory at f1500000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=32K]
Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 3
            Capabilities: [58] Vendor Specific Information: Len=78 <?>
            Capabilities: [48] MSI: Enable- Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+

03:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller [10ec:8136] (rev 05)
I found also following link F17 Broadcom 14e4:4365 Dell Wifi 1704 Drivers - FedoraForum.org that help some other persons.
But that works not me, because it compiles not under SUSE 12.2 64 Bit. -> amd64 not supported

A 32 bit SUSE is not a option for me.
At the moment I found no 64 Bit driver.

    The definitive source (http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#Working)
shows no driver for the 14e4:4365 device. I have no idea where the one you are
talking about was derived, but I would expect that the Broadcom-wl driver should
    now work with this device.

As far as I know, all of Broadcom's drivers work for both 32- and 64-bit systems.

Default AW: Problem with Broadcom (Dell) Wireless Suse 12.2 64 Bit

I have the same chipset at my dell laptop and still waiting for a working driver. I've searched the internet and found the Ubuntu packages, but they doesn't work for me.

For RPMs I found a request at bugzilla from rpmfusion (Fedora packages) which is also a good summary of the current situation.

[Bug 2550] New: Review request: wl-bcm43142-kmod - X86_64 Kernel module for Broadcom wireless devices BCM43142

The problem seems to be that
Broadcom will not update the official Broadcom STA driver (aka 5.100.82.112) as the new one was a Dell/Ubuntu specific only.
    zypp it...

Broadcom is being particularly nasty about this. There is a tar ball for this
driver, modified to build under kernel 3.4.11 located at

    Code:
    http://www.lwfinger.com/patches/wireless_bcm43142.tar.bz2
I have not tested it, but it builds cleanly. To build it, you will need the
    usual kernel-headers, etc.

    Two things to note:

    (1) This version does not build under kernel 3.7-rc7. When (and if) I get some
time, I will make the modifications for kernels 3.5, 3.6, and 3.7.

    (2) Broadcom only included the 64-bit binary blob with this package. There is no
    option for 32-bit users.

    Information for other people.
For the post I have done the requested installation of the driver with
    Code:
    /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware
    .
    Under /lib/firmeware I found the b43 and b43legacy directories.

    Thank You,
    Some information that here requested.

    • The Card will not be found under Wireless. It can be found under the PCI section.
    • The entry contains no kernel driver entry
    • After exporting the hardware information to a file I found no entry with UDI
    • The boot.log file contains nothing about a firmeware

A Broadcom-wl driver has the firmware built in. Running the script does nothing

The driver in that link has been updated, and it will build with kernels 3.4,
    3.5, 3.6, and 3.7.

I have been using Linux for over 12 years and never needed to compile a kernel. But i want to use my internal Dell Broadcom 4365 card.... Could you please point me in the direction or explain how to compile my kernel to get my wireless card working..

    Thanks'
