Have to run "kwin --replace" everytime I log in KDE

[size=4]Hi,

My desktop is currently running OpenSuse 12.1, after a while, everytime I log in KDE the title bars in the windows are gone. Researching about this issue I found few forums saying that after running kwin --replace, this issue has been solved, but my issue is that this is happening everytime I log in.

Reinstaling kwin has not solved this issue.

Thanks in advance,

So, in your /home/username folder is a hidden file called .kde4 and you could rename it and restart your PC and see if KDE works right. All KDE settings must be redone. You could take this as a good time to upgrade to KDE 4.8 perhaps, see this thread (message 19) for more details:

http://forums.opensuse.org/english/other-forums/news-announcements/tech-news/473078-kde-release-repository-warning-supplying-kde4-8-a-2.html

I must also tell you a couple of times when KDE acted up, it was a problem with the /home partition, but its hard to know just what is wrong for sure.

Thank You,

Many thanks jdmcdaniel3! :slight_smile:

I’ve followed your instructions and this issue is solved.

Have you already updated to KDE 4.8? Is it stable?

Have a good day,

I have upgraded to KDE 4.8.1 and it is working great and very stable. If you read through the thread you will see I did run into a problem with KDE sounds like you get on a log in or log out. They don’t work without some extra effort as I describe, but otherwise no other problems and worth the upgrade time.

Thank You,
