Thread: Problem downloading and installing rtmpdump - Licence Agreement Required

Default Problem downloading and installing rtmpdump - Licence Agreement Required

Strange thing happens using 12.1 with KDE 4.7.2 when trying to install rtmpdump from Links2Linux.org. The version I want is listed and offered as a download but if I try and install it either directly using Apper or by downloading file and then installing rpm I get so far and then process stops with message Licence Agreement Required.

What is this about and how do I get past this obstacle please.

Don't use Apper, use Zypper or YaST to do the installation.

This is the second post I've seen with someone getting hung up by apper
on a license agreement. You might want to report a bug on that - but
keep in mind that YaST's software install or zypper are the 'official'
ways to install software on openSUSE.

    Hi Jim,
Thanks but too cryptic for me. I have a link to an rpm file which should be correct. What are commands for using zypper.
Tried to use yast on downloaded rpm file and it bombed so I need more detailed guidance please.
    Regards,

    sudo zypper in <packagename>

Replace "<packagename>" with the name of the package.

    Follow the prompts.

If you download the RPM, don't use YaST or zypper, just do:

sudo rpm -ivh <rpm file name>

Or go into YaST's software management module and search from there.

FWIW: I do understand that apper is part of KDE (I use GNOME myself),
but it's a frontend to PackageKit, and PackageKit has had some problems,
it seems. I'd avoid it until the issues are sorted out.

    Hi Jim,
Found a solution but it was late and I cannot remember what in the end worked.
You are correct about PackageKit. For reasons only they understand, the KDE team insist on re-inventing the wheel.
I didn't ask for it, do not need it and would be better off without it.
What I have asked for is that they should get upnp working but no joy there after a year of trying.
    Perhaps I shall try Mint!
