net eventjes Opera 11.60 geinstalleerd op mijn openSuse 12.1 met LXDE installatie. Maar deze crasht direct bij het opstarten al. Het bijbehorende log-file is ook leeg. Opstarten m.b.v. de terminal, levert het volgende op:
opera [crash logging]: CRASH!!

Echter het hierbij genoemde log-file is leeg. Enig idee?
Kun je iets meer info geven over de machine waar je openSUSE op draait? De crash duidt op een geheugenprobleem voor zover ik weet. Opera draait bij mij al zonder problemen sinds ik linux draai/Opera er voor linux is.

Ik verdenk de SiS hardware componenten. SiS staat bekend om z’n slechte linux support en het niet altijd even nauwkeurig omgaan met hardware specificaties.
Maar,. heb je al eens een nieuwe gebruiker aangemaakt, ingelogd als die gebruiker en dan Opera opgestart?
Kun je ook eens output posten van
rpm -qa | grep opera
Mmm, de Sis hardware zou natuurlijk een oorzaak kunnen zijn. Ware het nie dat ik voorheen op deze laptop Fedora geinstalleerd had staan, waarop Opera zonder problemen draaide. Dus als het uberhaupt iets zou zijn m.b.t. de Sis-hardware, dan zou het denk ik dat aansturing/drivers v/d Sis-hardware binnen openSuse moeten zijn.
Aanmaken andere gebruiker, levert hetzelfde probleem op.

Ik viind al googlend wel wat dingen over Opera crashes ivm gtk/gdk. Kun je Opera eens starten vanuit een terminal, laten crashen, en dan meteen erna
tail -20 ~/.xsession-errors

Allereerst bedankt voor je reaktie en excuus voor de ietwat verlate reaktie. Momenteel kan ik je daar geen goed antwoord opgeven. Heb de Opera-versie 11.60 geinstalleerd via de website van Opera. De allerlaatste versie dus. Nu heb ik deze verwijdert en gekozen voor de Opera versie uit de repositories van openSuse. Versie-nummer ben ik even kwijt. Maar deze werkt wel en zonder problemen. Ik loop nu echter tegen andere problemen aan, met name op het gebied van de draadloze verbinding met internet en het wachtwoord. Dit alles nadat ik besloten heb om mijn LXDE-omgeving te verruilen voor KDE. Denk dat het overzichterlijker is en blijft, als ik daar een ander topic over open.

Any update on the status of Opera? For the last three weeks Opera has been giving me the fault:
/usr/lib/opera/opera got signal SIGSEGV at address 0813418B
No fix comes from Opera re-installs, downgrades, upgrades, factory, video driver re-installs, kernel reinstall, new user, root user, etc. And I can’t go back to 11.52 because the format irreversibly changed with 11.60. The same problem exists in other distributions so it is evidently an Opera or KDE problem rather than Suse.
It goes without saying how inconvenient this is for someone that has everything in Opera. Kmail suffices for current emails but of course I have lost access to my email history, contacts, rss feeds, bookmarks etc. Unfortunately, there is no way of easily importing Opera adr contacts into kmail.
Also, I really like Opera and want to stick with it. This just has to be a timing problem. I don’t want to do all the hard work to swing everything away from Opera and then end up managing duplicates and huge disk space of everything, and then find Opera is fixed in a day or two.
Being an “Opera lover” I will stick with a broken Opera and kmail for a while longer but I am amazed that this situation has persisted for so long. Hopefully something will move forward on this situation soon.
Meanwhile, I am not upgrading my other machines and my recommendation to anybody else is to hold off in upgrading from 11.52 to 11.60.

Stuart, these are the dutch subforums …I’m leaving the post for now, since the issue seams the same. Personally I’m running 11.60 on 64bit without any issues.
The post above says the Opera version from the repos does work. This for your information.

Hartelijk dank voor uw reactie. Sorr voor het gebruik van Engels op een Nederlands forum! Ik hoop dat je dit niet Google Nederlandse vertaling (het Engels is dan ook) geest.
Ik heb verdacht van diverse Google commentaren die Opera 64bit werkt, terwijl 32bit mislukt. Ik heb ondervonden SIGSEGV voor en het is altijd eindigde als een fouten in de primaire software.
Ook de verwijzing naar “repositories” en “versie” hierboven, zijn onduidelijk - ik heb geprobeerd alle mogelijke repository versie (met inbegrip van “11.60 1185.i386 opera” genoemd eerder in deze draad). Het enige wat ik niet heb geprobeerd is een native installatie want het is een pijn te hebben zowel de plaatselijke bevolking en toeren per minuut. Ook zie ik bij andere distributies die hetzelfde probleem bestaat in eigen installatie.
Ik hoop dat dit probleem kan worden opgelost als Google toont aan dat verwijzingen naar deze zeer frustrerend probleem toe.

I have suspected from various Google comments that Opera 64bit works while 32bit fails. I have encountered SIGSEGV before and it has always ended up being an errors in the primary software.
Also, the reference to “repositories” and “version” above are unclear - I have tried every possible repository version (including “11.60 1185.i386 opera” mentioned earlier in this thread). The only thing I have not tried is a native installation because it is a pain to have both native and rpm. Also, I see from other distributions that the same problem exists in native installation.
I hope this issue can be solved as Google shows that references to this very frustrating issue are increasing.

Laat me toe te voegen aan het laatste bericht dat ik heb ontdekt dat het probleem is een 32-bits kleur te geven. Mijn scherm resolutie is 1280x800, die niet kan worden veranderd van het bureaublad. Echter, als ik het systeem opnieuw op te starten met een vga = ask en een setting als 1024x768 met 32bit kleur dan krijg ik een vertekend weer te geven. Echter, Opera (de nieuwste opera-11.60-1185.i386.rpm van Opera.com) werkt prima. Ik zie uit andere berichten dat je over het scherm resolutie van problemen en ook dat Opera technici werken aan een oplossing voor 11,61. Dus ik denk dat ik gewoon te wachten.

Let me add to the last post that I have discovered that the problem is a 32-bit color issue. My screen resolution is 1280x800, which cannot be changed from the Desktop. However, if I restart the system with vga=ask and a setting like 1024x768 with 32bit color then I get a distorted display. However, Opera (the latest opera-11.60-1185.i386.rpm from Opera.com) works fine. I see from other forum posts that you are across the display resolution issues and also that Opera engineers are working on a fix for 11.61. So I guess that I just need to wait.

I had the same issues you had. That is, with the Opera version I installed from the Opera-website. That one didn’t work for me, giving the same errors you had. You checked the error-log? To solve the issue, I uninstalled the Opera-version I installed from the Opera-site and installed the one from the repositories. That one works fine for me.

Ja, ik heb geprobeerd een nieuwe gebruiker een aantal keren. Zoals ik hierboven vermeld, het probleem lijkt te zijn resolutie gerelateerd. Helaas heeft een X-update die kwam gewoon door maakte geen verschil.
