Default vlc stop working.... "No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format"

Every time I try to reproduce a MKV file I get the following error

    No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "h264". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.

This was working a few days ago with no issues. I think stop working after the last update (not 100% sure)
I have tried to uninstall and installed back again, but didn't work
    Thanks
