search function working the right way?

in Get Help Here | Multimedia, in the ‘Search Forum’ form, I searched for my id to find threads I’ve posted to. I used the sole search argument: danperecky (all lower case). There were no results, even though I saw that I was the last one to post in a thread four down from the top. Is this normal behavior?

see these two images:

  4. another search’s results

the first slide shows searching on danperecky (all lower case) after
selecting the top tab to “Search Single Content Type”…

slide two shows some of several hits found of danperecky posts…

slide three shows a search with the top tab set to “Search Multiple
Content Types”

slide four shows several of many hits…

maybe the forum software was momentarily hung when you tried…try
again…

by the way, you can also go to your profile page, at
http://forums.opensuse.org/members/danperecky.html

and click on either “Find all posts” or “Find all started threads Find
all started threads”

Your suggestion is a good one, to use the ‘find all posts’ or ‘Find all started threads’ function in the profile page. I was trying to see posts made in the Multimedia forum only.

For example, seeing a screenshot of the forum, I see your id responding to my query- displayed on the fourth thread from the top.
I am searching for your id there at the top right.

The below screenshot shows the results. The fourth thread down that you posted to shown in the previous screenshot was not included.

someone who knows more about vBulletin than i do needs to help you
sort it out…maybe it is another bug that has to be fixed in the
latest and greatest…

:\I presume “the ‘Search Forum’ form” searches the argument only in the text of the posts not in the user names.

  1. ‘Normal’ search in the English Mulitimedia Forum gave me no results.
Forum >English > Get HELP Here > Multimedia
    > Search Forum > enter “danperecky” > choose “show thread”/choose “show postes” gave no results

Advanced search for the username “danperecky” in the English Mulitimedia Forum gave me three threads or four posts.
Forum > English > Get HELP Here > Multimedia
> Search Forum > choose “advanced search” > add “danperecky” in the line “username” > choose one of the last sections right of “Show Results as:” “show thread”/choose “show postes”.

Advanced search for the keyword “danperecky” in the English Mulitimedia Forum gave me no matches (no threads or posts).
Forum > English > Get HELP Here > Multimedia
> Search Forum > choose “advanced search” > add “danperecky” in the line “keyword” > choose “show thread”/choose “show postes”.

Advanced search for the keyword “danperecky” in this English Forums Comments/Suggestions Forum gave matches: one thread or one post (this posting: search function working the right way? but behind the link are 4 Postings “Results 1 to 4 of 4”.:\

Hope I could help at least a bit
