Thread: X not starting

    Default X not starting

    I cannot start X (ie GUI) when i boot in default mode. but i can get GUI through failsafe on opensuse boot options
    but thats 1024x768 instead of desired 1368x768
    the error is attatched as a txt file
    I am get login when i boot into default boot
    then i use 'startx" and get the error msgs
    please advise

    changed read permission of /usr/bin/Xorg
    now permission are -rwsr-xr-x-

    but now error is when i try to start X(in default boot) -------

    No need to change permissions in your case. Mine are:

    -rws--x--x 1 root root 1906712  2. Nov 13:11 /usr/bin/Xorg
    The important thing is that the s bit (set user ID on execution) is set. Otherwise you get permission denied errors, as shown in your first post.

    Now it appears that you have a wrong version of libglx. What is the output of:

    rpm -qa | grep xorg-x11
    ? Maybe someone having a x86_64 system can compare the versions (I am on i586).

    I experimented this problem at past when i installed nvidia propietary driver in openSuSE 11.2 and openSuSE 11.4. I solved this permissions problem reinstalling xorg-x11-server or executing startx with root.

    First solution:

    zypper install -f xorg-x11-server
    Second solution:
    Code:
    su -c startx -
